Around The Country in 8 Days
November 17, 2006
Sorry for not go online constantly these past few days. I was at this roadshow to a couple of cities in Indonesia. This event, which sponsored by one of the well-known motherboard vendor in Indonesia will travel four cities: Jogjakarta, Banjarmasin, Samarinda and last one, Medan.
In those towns, we will hold seminars about two things, Home Entertainment and 3D Animation. The speaker of that seminars will be my good friend, Jimmy (for the home entertainment part, yeah you know hes good at those things) and Deddy Syamsuddin (for the 3D part).
Town no.1: Jogja. Its only day 2 (out of eight days) but the fatigue was killing me. I have to help setting up the seminars in the morning. Standby when the show starts and prepare for the evening event when we held up a gathering to our dealers in Jogja. Therefore, Im not going to travel around Jogja for souvenir hunting. I dont have the time for that.
We wake up early the next day to catch a plane to Surabaya. The plan was to go there for a transit to our next destination seminar which held in Banjarmasin. But just as others flight in Indonesia, we have to prepare for the delays. In addition we have to wait 4 hours in Surabaya. Well, its a little bit about the weather issues not just a technical problem of the flight service. We had a delay because of the smokes that covered up the skies in Banjarmasin.
After we came, I just knew where the smokes origin. When we travel from the airport to the hotel, theres dozens views of forests burned by fire. The locals told me that the burning is one-partmistakes and other part intentional. They burned bushes to clear the field for building commercial centers. Not like in Jogja, this time we got time to hang around and travel a bit on the first night there. I bought some local made shirts which is kind of cheap, and I get to taste some local foods (the fish eggs are extremely delicious here in Banjarmasin, you should try it when you travel here)
The seminar was unexpectedly full. We have to provide many extra seats. It seems Banjarmasin had a very high enthusiasm towards Information Technology, which is a very good thing. Unfortunately, there wasnt much enough dealers and distribution to back up the needs of computer Banjarmasin (thats what I heard from one testimonial of a distributor)
The next day, we have to pack up early and go right up to Balikpapan. From there, we have to do two hours trip to Samarinda, the next town. Much to my surprises, Samarinda is much urbanely developed than Balikpapan. Many oil fields in there could be the culprit. You know, much of the town in Indonesia, which produce oil were highly developed, and thats the reality. Jambi, Cepu, Merauke, and now witnessed with my very own eyes, Samarinda.
The last trip (two days after we held the seminar in Samarinda) was Medan. Now heres something interesting. It seems much of the people who drives in Medan, drove their car furiously. Just kidding there, :)
In Medan we stayed at this five star hotel called Grand Angkasa Hotel. Disappointingly, they didnt give Wi-Fi access unless youre in the executive suite. So much for a five star hotel… Overall, this eight days cruising around Indonesia was a heck of a tiring trip. Nevertheless, some good moments were never being forgotten.

- # - And so begin the brick wars! On the axis side, it's Steve Jobs and its Apple. The Allied side consists of peoples who unlocked their iPhone. But nooo, they're not the only ones. According to Scoble, some regular iPhone user has the same problem too after the update that Apple released. It's getting hotter now. :) - #
